In China, the land of anonymous mass production, our company has created a small workshop to do hand-dyeing, within a larger textile dyeing plant. We constructed and set up all of the equipment, enabling the employees there (consisting of about 30 people) to do a special type of hand-coloring that gives the silk fabrics we make their special luminescence. We chose China for this part of our production system because of their long history of working with silk. By setting up our own operation there, we can be sure that we are not participating in any of the unsavory practices that people worry about when it comes to Chinese manufacturing. Those are the concerns that kept us out of China for the first 15 years. Not only does Kevin know how well the people are treated, he knows the people. In addition, our wastewater is treated and the workshop conditions are safe.
